Private prophylaxis course
Private prophylactic class with doula
We highly recommend a private antenatal course with a doula as preparation for birth.
The advantage is that the course can be tailored to your unique personalities and your circumstances and wishes for the birth.
There is also a greater opportunity to discuss thoughts, worries or fears.
Holding the course at home also makes it possible to practice in that environment and with the items and furniture you have at home, where you often spend the latent phase.
Content and structure
Before the course
Before the course, we invite you to write a few lines about yourselves, as well as your thoughts and wishes for the birth.
You are also welcome to share any worries or fears, and if there's anything specific you'd like to focus on.
Course content
- Physiology of birth (using a pelvic model and doll)
- Stages of labor and how they can be experienced
- Role of hormones and the nervous system
- Coping techniques: Birth Without Fear's four tools and/or hypnobirthing
- Partner's role
- Birthing positions
- Massage, movements, and pressure (e.g., pressure on knees, hips, sacrum, and lower back/buttocks)
- Time for questions and discussion
You will also receive a compendium with information to refer back to, and we will be available for any questions afterwards.
common questions
Can I book the course as a standalone?
Yes, absolutely. You can take the course with a support person (for example, a partner, relative or friend) who will be with you during childbirth.
It is also fine to take the course by yourself if you plan to give birth with the support of hospital staff.
When during pregnancy is it a good time to take the class?
There is no time that is too early or too late to take the course, but most people choose to take it between weeks 20–34 of pregnancy.
If you experience fear of childbirth, it may be a good idea to book the course a little earlier, as many people find that anxiety and fear decrease after the course.
Is it ever too late to book the course?
No, it's never too late to book if you haven't given birth yet, as long as there is availability.
We always do our best to book and carry out the course as soon as possible so we can do it before birth starts.
